By herself, Claire Morales’ strong voice and guitar could fill a concert venue just as well as the Jonsson skybridge. But with the support of her band, or as a part of the music projects Old Potion and Saudade Sisters, the sounds she cultivates are powerful. D Magazine called her Denton’s best young songwriter and listening to this session and her first solo album, Amaranthine, it’s easy to tell why. I’ve had the CD on repeat in my car radio since she gave it to me when we recorded her. In this stripped down session, she lets the simplicity of the setting magnify the raw emotion in her music. Give it a listen and get excited for the second album she has on the way.
