Paperwhite is an indie-pop duo from Brooklyn, made up of siblings Katie and Ben Marshall. They categorize themselves as Dream-Pop on their website, and their 80’s inspired shimmering synthesizers, hazy melodies and entrancing drum beats back up that description. Their new EP “Magic” was preceded by a single of the same name and “Take Me Back”, all of which have thus far received the great reviews. Over all, Paperwhite’s music is a feel good, nostalgic piece of art that is hard not to enjoy.

“Pieces” and “Take Me Back” and “Magic” are the most up-beat of the 6 songs on the EP and all share a similar beat. “Gold” and “Magic” have very similar opening synths, and thus a similar tone over-all. All the songs are unashamedly pop jams, and that’s part of what makes them so enjoyable and while they all mostly follow the same formula each song is its own experience. “Galaxy” shifts down the tempo and stands apart from the other songs while still matching the over all tone.
Paperwhite has received the Hypem title “Most Blogged Artist” twice in a row, so they are certainly up-and-coming. You can listen to them on Spotify or buy their EP Magic on iTunes.
