Crate Diggers

Interested in hearing where hip-hop’s roots are? Crate Diggers provides live instances of the songs that hip-hop music samples. Sampling is the art of flipping, chopping, or interpolating an original composition and creating a new work from the selected music. Often, even the music being sampled has sampled something else. On Crate Diggers, you’ll hear the original sample for the hip-hop song followed by the actual hip-hop song itself. Many exceptions may and will apply, such as when multiple songs are sampled by one hip-hop song, one original song is sampled by multiple hip-hop songs, and sample chains. So, strap in for a session on the inspirations that continue to define the hip-hop genre.

About the DJ:

Hello! I’m Enrique Cardenas, melophile and undergraduate student at the University of Texas at Dallas studying Data Science. Along with being a DJ and a blogger for RadioUTD, I also run my own personal music blog. You can follow me on Instagram or admire me from afar. The genres of music I enjoy most are hip-hop/rap, varied types of rock (alternative, punk, indie, psychedelic, and more), and electronic. Although these are the types I most enjoy, I’m open to listening to many different kinds of music.
